Clann na Gael was formed in 2003 in response to the demand for an Irish soccer club in the Twin Cities and after a number of years without a recognized Irish team.

The club currently plays in the MRSL Division 1B as well as having a team in the Holy Angels indoor league during the winter. The club is sponsored by Cara Irish Pubs which includes the The Local and Kieran's in Minneapolis, Cooper in St Louis Park and The Liffey in St Paul.
